Joe LeBoeuf, Ph.D.
Joe recently retired as a Colonel after 35 years in uniform, and his last assignment was as an Academy Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was the Deputy Head of the Behavioral Sciences and Leadership Department, Director of Organizational Studies and Director, Tactical Officer Education Program (TOEP), the graduate degree granting program that, in conjunction with Long Island University, awards a Masters Degree in Leadership and Counseling to 12-19 commissioned officers each year. Joe has also served as an advisor to the Army’s Chief of Staff in reshaping Army culture to better integrate training and leader development, and to facilitate Army Transformation.
Joe was hired by the Fuqua School of Business in June, 04 to teach leadership and management in the MBA programs, work in the Coach K Center of Leadership and Ethics, and work with the COLE Maxcor Leadership Fellows. He has taught a course in Managerial Effectiveness, and Facilitation, Coaching and Mentoring, and has added an elective, Managing Human Assets and Organizational Change to his repertoire. He has become the senior mentor to the COLE Leadership Fellows, and a member of the COLE Center Scholars. Outside of his Fuqua responsibilities, he serves as a consultant with Duke Corporate Education, the #1 custom designer of leadership development programs in the country. He recently participated as the lead consultant with ANSER, Inc. on a 9-month study of the United States Air Force Academy’s leader and character development program for the Secretary of the Air Force, and is currently the lead consultant on a benchmarking study of the Reserve Officer Education Course (ROTC) with leadership education programs in business, industry and academia for the Commanders, US Army Accessions and Cadet Commands.
Joe has attended a number of military and professional schools to include the Command and General Staff College and the US Army War College. He is a parachutist and Army Ranger. He has had numerous command and staff assignments in both the Federal Republic of Germany, and the Continental United States. Joe spent 3 years working for the Chief of Staff of the Army (CSA), GEN Eric Shinseki, on a special study of leadership and leader development issues in the Army, and served on the CSA’s Army Training and Leader Developmental Panel Executive Committee for over 2 years. His academic education includes a BS in Engineering from West Point, a Master’s in Engineering Psychology and Ph.D. degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is also an in-residence graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College and the Army War College.
